Game Maker Studio 2 is a cross-platform game engine developed by YoYo Games. It specializes mainly in 2D graphics and games. Game Maker is a very beginner friendly game engine to use because of its drag-and-drop visual programming language. Game Maker also has its own scripting language known as Game Maker Language, which can be used to develop more advanced games that could not be created just by using the drag and drop features.
Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies. Unity has the capibilty to build high quality 2D/3D games which can be published on various platforms like console, mobile, and VR. Scripts in Unity are usually written in the C# langauge.
The Unreal Engine is a game engine developed by Epic Games. It is focused on high end 3D game development and many AAA games have been made using unreal. You can create an entire game in unreal by just using blueprint scripting or writing code in C++.
